Frequently
Asked Questions
What is the difference between online schooling and distance learning?
Distance learning is where students are given material that they work through alone, and if they run into problems, they need to call a teacher for help. At IVA Global Online School, our students engage their teachers during live real-time interactive sessions according to a structured daily timetable.
Do you keep to traditional school hours?
IVA Global Online School has structured classes just like traditional schools. Our students interact and engage with teachers and other students in online classes in real time.
Junior school from 8:00 to 12:45.
Senior school – dependent on subjects taken
Can I track my child’s progress?
IVA has four assessment cycles and issues 4 report cards. During each assessment cycle, parents are encouraged to monitor the progress of assessments done on a weekly basis and to engage teachers should they need to.
Do you have a webinar or something similar to explain how your online school works?
- Interested parents are able to quickly and easily book a call with the Head of the Phase. This 20-minute call will give you a comprehensive understanding of the school. Click here to book a meeting with the Head of Phase.

Besides academics, do you have any social activities?
As a school, we are a community with an active online social program and our students have the opportunity to hang out in our virtual home called “Isle of IVA”. IVA students propose different student led societies for student membership and participation. Our students also participate in E-Sports and E-Sports is a weekly lesson for Year 4 to 9 students. IVA is represented by students in more than 26 countries around the world, and in-person gatherings are organised per area from time to time. Annually, students have the opportunity to explore the country with their classmates through our camps and tours.
Which governing body are you registered with?
We are registered with the IEB in South Africa and with Pearson Edexcel in the UK. We partner with Tutors and Exams in the UK and South Africa. We are quality assured by IQAA, the independent quality assurance body in education.
In what way do the teachers interact with the students?
Teachers interact with students during live lessons or through our userfriendly platform at any time.
How does my child ask for extra help / extra lessons?
Support at IVA has two modes: Firstly, students can request assistance at any time from their teachers, and secondly, after analysis of assessments, teachers are proactive in putting in place extra lessons to address any gaps or deficits.
Are your teachers trained particularly for online schooling?
IVA has an annual conference at the beginning of every year, which brings all our teachers together for a few days to learn about the latest trends in online teaching. IVA has ongoing training and development throughout the year for their teaching, with a focus on increasing student engagement during lessons.
Why IVA Global School instead of one of the other online schools?
IVA Global Online School focuses predominantly on building relationships with students during our live online lessons. Class sizes foster student engagement, and every child is understood by each of their teachers. We encourage a partnership with the parents, working together to optimise the students’ experience. Communication between parents and school is simple and highly effective. IVA Global Online School has a holistic approach to education and has five pillars that make up our schooling experience, which include the following: IVA Learn, IVA Social, IVA Mind and Body, IVA Values and Beyond IVA.
